- Your notebooks are stored on your device. InkNotes has no ads and no analytics.
- Cloud backup is optional and goes to your own Google Drive. Backups are encrypted on your device with a password only you know, before they leave it.
- If you connect Google Drive, InkNotes can only see the backup files it creates there, nothing else in your Drive.
- InkNotes is free to try for 14 days; a one-time unlock is sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment; InkNotes never sees your card, UPI or bank details.
- We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
01Who we are
InkNotes (package com.bracecoder.inknotes) is a handwriting notebook app for Android tablets, made by BraceCoder (bracecoder.in). This policy covers the app.
02What stays on your device
Your notebooks, pages, drawings, typed text, imported PDFs and images, and templates are stored in the app's private storage on your device. They are not sent anywhere unless you back them up (section 3) or share or export them yourself.
Handwriting and text recognition run on your device using Google ML Kit. The first time you use handwriting recognition for a language, the app downloads that language's recognition model from Google; your handwriting itself is not sent.
When you choose to import a PDF or image, share or export a page, the file goes only where you pick using Android's own file picker or share sheet.
03Optional backup to Google Drive
You can back up your whole library to your own Google Drive. Backups happen when you tap "Back up now", or once a day on Wi-Fi if you turn on automatic backup. The app sends them straight from your device to Google Drive; they do not pass through any BraceCoder server.
Encryption
Before a backup leaves your device, it is encrypted with your backup password (AES-256-GCM, with a key derived from the password using PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256). The password itself is never stored or sent; only a key derived from it is kept in your device's secure keystore. Neither BraceCoder nor Google can read your backups. If you forget the password, the backups cannot be recovered.
Each backup file also records the number of notebooks and pages, your device's Android version and a checksum, so the app can list your backups and check them when restoring. Section 4 covers what InkNotes can see in your Google account.
Earlier versions of InkNotes (until 15 October 2026) could also back up to bracecoder.in with a BraceCoder account. That service has been switched off.
04Google user data
If you connect Google Drive, InkNotes asks Google for these permissions:
- Your name and email address (
openid, email, profile): shown in the app's settings so you can see which Google account backups go to, and used on your device to ask Google for Drive access for that account. They are kept only on your device. - Files InkNotes creates in your Google Drive (
drive.file): to create an "InkNotes Backups" folder, upload your encrypted backups into it, list them, download one when you restore, and delete old ones (the app keeps your 10 newest). This permission does not let InkNotes see, open or change any other file in your Drive.
The app talks to Google Drive directly from your device. Your Google data and your Drive backups are not sent to BraceCoder's servers, and BraceCoder never receives your Google sign-in tokens.
InkNotes' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data for advertising, do not sell it, do not use it to train AI or machine-learning models, and do not let people read it.
You can disconnect Google Drive at any time in the app (Settings, then Google Drive, then Disconnect), which removes InkNotes' access. You can also remove access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Backups already in your Drive stay there until you delete them.
05Free trial and purchase
InkNotes can be used free for 14 days. After that, everything stays viewable and can still be exported and backed up, and a one-time purchase ("InkNotes unlock") through Google Play lets you make changes again. There is no subscription.
The purchase is made and paid for entirely in Google Play. Google processes the payment under Google's Privacy Policy; InkNotes and BraceCoder never see your card, UPI, bank or billing details. When the app starts, it asks Google Play on your device whether your Google Play account owns the unlock, so the purchase also works after reinstalling or on another device. BraceCoder receives the usual sales reports from Google Play (such as order number, date, price and country), not your notebooks.
To know when the free trial ends, the app stores the date it started, on your device. The same date is written into your backups and notebook exports, so that restoring them does not start a new trial; when you import a file whose trial started earlier, the app tells you before the date is used.
06Sharing
We do not sell, rent or share your data with third parties. BraceCoder does not receive your notebooks, your backups or your Google data at all: the only outside services involved are your own Google Drive, if you choose to back up there, and Google Play, if you buy the unlock. We may disclose information if required by law.
07Deleting your data
- Notebooks: delete them in the app, or uninstall InkNotes, which removes everything stored on the device.
- Backups made with earlier versions on bracecoder.in: all of them were deleted from our server on 15 October 2026.
- Backups in Google Drive: delete them in the app or in Google Drive; disconnect Google Drive as described in section 4.
08Children and changes
InkNotes is not directed at children under 13. If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page; significant changes will also be mentioned in the app.
